Scissor Lifts

A scissor lift is a very common aerial work platform. These lifts offer a very stable work platform on which people can carry out many types of construction and maintenance work. They are work specific as their lifts extend straight up from the base. Compared to other lift types, scissor lifts cannot extend over different parts of a job site.

There are two main types of Scissor lifts. The Electric Scissor lift and the Rough Terrain Scissor lift.

Rough Terrain Scissor Lift

Productivity at a job site is often times determined by knowing the right type of equipment to use. Job sites with rough surfaces and topography require specialized type of equipment. One of such equipment that can match up to the rigorous and tougher construction application is the Rough Terrain Scissor lift.

The Rough Terrain Scissor lift is an aerial work platform designed for outdoor jobs and rough surfaces. With it’s platform height of about 60 ft, and it’s workspace that measures about 2 to 4 feet by 5 to 10 feet, the rough terrain lift provides enough space and room capacity for people, tools, and equipment even at it’s extended reach. The rough terrain scissor lift has a larger load and lifting capacity compared to some other lifts. Some models have a capacity of up to 2,500 pounds.

Rough terrain scissor lifts are powered by gas/LP, or diesel engines and thus, emit fumes that may be dangerous. For safety purposes, please ensure that you use these lifts in well aerated and ventilated places.

Electric Scissor Lift

An electric scissor lift is a vertical scissor lift  with a unique raising mechanism made of crisscrossing metal supports. This crisscrossing metal supports connect two elements that look much like sets of interlocking scissors which is why it is called Electric Scissor lift.  There are guardrails that surround these platforms to enhance the lift’s safety. With their relatively large aerial work platform that has the same dimension as their base, electric scissor lifts can’t move forward or backward as boom lifts do, so users must position the base directly underneath the work area.

Although electric scissor lifts have larger work platforms that can hold people, their equipment, and platforms that are larger than many lifts, they are much smaller than their counter-part the Rough terrain scissor lift. They are relatively stable and can be used as a work surface, similar to a scaffold. Compared to using a scaffold that requires assembling, set-up, and dismantling, the electric scissor lift only requires the operator to drive one to the work space, load it, and raise the aerial work platform.

Electric scissor lifts don’t emit chemical fumes while running, thus making them a safer choice while carrying out indoor work.
